Helping Members Navigate the New Market Dynamics

Unauthorized, third-party sellers began hawking scarce supplies at a markup early in the pandemic.


Nearly three out of five hospitals told Premier they had received a gray market solicitation, adding confusion and unnecessary complexity to securing critical PPE.


Premier vetted hundreds of gray market solicitations that we and our members received.

We found that fewer than 10% of these offers were legitimate and reported hundreds of illegitimate sellers to the authorities.

 

To help our members navigate new entrants into the supply chain, we published guidance on the gray market, including how health systems can protect against supply chain scams and how safely vet gray market offers.

 

Throughout the pandemic, Premier’s e-Commerce channel, stockd, maintained the buyer protections, fair pricing and reputability of items that are built into the platform. Stockd stood up a resource page, including alternative production methodologies and dimensions and materials for PPE, as a trustworthy guide for supply producers.
